Class details

Any applicant who successfully completes the Basic Training Refresher through Confident Captain will satisfy the continued competency requirements for STCW Basic Training in STCW, as amended 2010, Basic Training in Section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(e) and 46 CFR 12.602(e), AND, all of the tasks from the National Assessment Guidelines found in NVIC 08-14. Applicants are not required to present completed Record of Assessment Sheets when applying for an STCW endorsement. This three-day, 24 hours training course provides refresher/revalidation training to seafarers in:

  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
  • First Aid and CPR (EFA)
  • Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
  • Basic Fire Fighting (BFF)

*Additional classes may be added as refresher demand increases for upcoming deadlines.
** Private courses can be booked for groups of 8 or more.

Prerequisites

All candidates must be 18 years old, have a firm understanding of the English language, be in reasonable physical health, and know how to swim.

All candidates must have completed STCW-95 Basic Safety Training within the last 10 years. Otherwise, you must take STCW-10.

When I was with the USCG Aux aviation program we had to do a similar water test/training. They had us wear flight suits so the training would be “realistic”. Would have been closer to reality if we had been thrown down a flight of stairs and then into cold water but it was better than nothing.
