Class details

The Yachtmaster Sail Practical and Exam for either Offshore or Coastal certification includes 7 intense days aboard a sailing yacht provided by Confident Captain on a “Preparatory Cruise.”

A qualified instructor will take students to sea to prepare you for advanced navigation and practical skippering of a boat of at least 7m or 23ft. The course reviews all aspects of the RYA Theory syllabus with an emphasis on boat handling under sail and power and in confined spaces, navigation and pilotage techniques in daylight, at night and in reduced visibility as well as coping with emergencies and adverse weather conditions.

Prerequisites

  • Required Sea-time
    • 50 days -2,500nm including at least 5 passages over 60 miles
    • Acting as skipper for at least 2 of these passages
    • Including 2 overnight passages
    • 5 days experience as skipper
  • ENG 1 (Professional Only)
  • STCW-10 (Professional Only)
  • Basic First Aid Certificate (Recreational Only)
  • SRC/VHF Certification
  • Minimum age 18
