About Limited Master Launchtender Course
Register for The Limited Master Launchtender course which covers boat handling, regulations, ropework, navigation rules, and more. This Confident Captain course was designed for those whose occupation includes operating a launch. Those enrolled must be 17 years of age and have 120 days of documented sea time.
Become Licensed to Run a Water Taxi, Launch, or Coach Boat! Confident Captain’s 16-hour Limited Master “Launchtender” course covers safe boat handling, Rules of the Road, navigation regulations, marlinspike seamanship, aids to navigation, and more. This course is for individuals who plan to operate a launch, or water taxi at yacht clubs and marinas, or camps and other facilities requiring licensed launch operators. At the end of the process, candidates will be issued a course completion certificate from Confident Captain. That certificate can be submitted to the US Coast Guard Regional Exam Center along with a Limited Master “Launchtender” application for the following license: “Limited Master of Self-Propelled Vessels and approved to engage in Launch Tender Service upon the waters of Sector Southeast New England.” Note that the license will be valid up to 1/2NM from shore only with appropriate First Aid/CPR certifications. Without First Aid/CPR certification it will be limited to 1000 feet from shore.

How Instructor Led Courses Work Amid COVID-19 What to do next: Upon successful completion of the course the student will be required to submit the following paperwork and information to the US Coast Guard in order to apply for his or her license. This process can take many weeks.
