Get Your Professional Captains License to Operate Uninspected Vessels with up to 6 Passengers and 100 Gross Tons

The US Coast Guard OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels) License allows boaters to operate an uninspected vessel of up to 100 Gross Tons. Often referred to as a six-pack license, the certification allows captains to operate boats carrying up to six passengers.

  1. Register by selecting the self-guided Online Course.
  2. Upon registering, you will receive course login directions and details via email.
  3. Order your course materials of Charts, Divider, Ruler, and Chapmans (list emailed upon checkout or can view be viewed here).
  4. Participate in the entire course.
  5. Register for your Confident Captain Online Exam with us. if you need more help with exam preparation, email us at kent@confidentcaptain.com for more information.
  6. Take and pass your exam with us using our digital proctoring software on your own device.
  7. Receive your Course Completion Certificate.
  8. Fill out your USCG application using our student application guide.
  9. Send your application and certificate to the Coast Guard.
  10. Get your Captain’s License!

Course Pre-Requisites:

In order to participate in the OUPV (Six-Pack) course the following criteria must be met:

  • The candidate must be 18 years of age to enroll in a Master’s course
  • All candidates must have a firm understanding of the English language

Required Sea-time

  • 360 days of sea time experience
  • Each day of experience is defined by a minimum of 4 hours underway
  • Only one day can be logged for every calendar day
  • 90 of the 360 days must be outside the “boundary” line used for licensing purposes.
  • 90 of the 360 days must be within the last 3 years
  • All experience must be obtained after the age of 16
