Throughout his career, Captain Ken Lannamann has been able to merge traditional navigation and seamanship with a science and technology background. He has sailed extensively throughout the world, from the fjords of Norway to tropical atolls in the South Pacific, from protected bays in New Zealand through rocky islands in Greece, and most places in between including the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Baltic Seas and of course his native New England waters.

With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from WPI and graduate studies in Ocean Engineering at University of New Hampshire, Ken has also worked ashore as a Research & Development Engineer at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, including sea time aboard their Research Vessels and making dives in manned submersibles to depths greater than two thousand feet. An interest in Underwater Acoustics led to involvement with oceanographic instrumentation, underwater transducer design, and SONAR applications.

Ken holds a USCG Master 100 Ton License with Auxiliary Sail and Assistance Towing endorsements, RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Certificates (200 Ton), STCW training, and a PADI Divemaster rating. He has captained various luxury charter sailing yachts up to 111’ internationally for years, making numerous blue water passages across the Atlantic and Pacific, and only recently has moved ashore, where he is re-adjusting to the benefits of living on terra firma. He enjoys sharing lessons learned and experience through teaching and instruction in boat handling, navigation, and seamanship. 

But whenever possible, Captain Ken can be found back on the water in a kayak, rowing shell, canoe, or sailboat. It’s in his blood.
